Google Consent V2

Question:

How does Google Consent V2 work on Shopify for Google Ads tracking tags with the Multifeed Google Shopping Feed App?

Answer:

Google Consent V2 is designed to gather additional signals from users who have not granted consent for their personal data or browser storage to be accessed for data collection. To allow visitors (users) to grant or deny consent, your Shopify store must display a cookies banner popup. Historically, this banner was provided by third-party cookie banner apps available on Shopify. However, Shopify has recently introduced a built-in feature called Customer Privacy to support this functionality.

Whether you use Shopifys standard privacy settings or a third-party cookie banner app, when a visitor grants or denies consent through the cookies banner, this choice is stored in the Shopify cookies on their browser, which is accessible via the Shopify API. Analytics tools (including tracking tag apps) must read and respect the choice a visitor has made.

For Google Ads tracking, tags must submit additional data to the dataLayer to communicate the visitor's consent choices to Google. If you're using Multifeed Google Shopping Feed app to manage pixel and tracking tags, consent mode is already built in.
