Why was I charged twice in the same month?

Q: I noticed two charges for the app in the same month. Why did this happen?

A: Please rest assured that this is not an overcharge. The charges you see are due to how Shopify’s billing system works:

  • App fees are based on 30-day cycles: Every Shopify app, including ours, charges per 30 days of usage.
  • Shopify invoices merchants monthly: A monthly invoice may cover 28, 29, 30, or 31 days, depending on the calendar.
  • Occasionally, two cycles overlap: When a 30-day app cycle ends just before or just after your monthly invoice date, Shopify includes two charges in the same invoice.

For example, in the screenshot below:

  • The Jul 28 charge was too late to be included in the Jul 28 invoice, so it appeared in the Aug 28 invoice.
  • The next cycle ended Aug 27, which was too early for the Sep 28 invoice, so it was also included in the Aug 28 invoice.

This can make it look like a double charge, but in reality each fee covers a different 30-day usage cycle. Over time, this timing mismatch may happen again (usually months or years apart).

Last but not least, please note that we, as app developers, cannot initiate charges. All billing is handled directly by Shopify’s system, which determines when and how much to charge based on terms and conditions.
