Why does Triple Whale show my feed name instead of my Google Ads campaign name?

Question

After creating my Google Shopping feed with Multifeeds, I noticed that Triple Whale attributes some purchases to my feed name (for example, "USA Feed Multifeeds") instead of my Google Ads campaign name. Why is this happening, and how can I change it?

Answer

This behavior is expected and is related to how Triple Whale uses UTM parameters for attribution.

By default, Multifeeds appends UTM parameters to your product URLs, and the utm_campaign parameter is set to your feed name.

For example:

https://yourstore.com/products/product-a?utm_campaign=USAFeedMultifeeds

When a customer clicks your Google Shopping ad and lands on your store, Triple Whale reads the UTM parameters from the landing page URL. Since the utm_campaign value is USA Feed Multifeeds, Triple Whale attributes the purchase to the feed name rather than your Google Ads campaign.

This only affects reporting in attribution platforms such as Triple Whale. It does not affect your Google Ads campaigns, conversion tracking, or campaign optimization.

How can I show my Google Ads campaign name instead?

You can customize the UTM parameters in one of the following ways:

  • Option 1: Customize the UTM parameters in Multifeeds

Go to Feed Settings → Target, then edit the Product URL or UTM parameters to match your preferred naming convention.

  • Option 2: Override the UTM parameters in Google Ads

You can override the default UTM parameters by configuring a Tracking Template or Final URL Suffix in your Google Ads campaign.

This allows Google Ads to pass your preferred campaign values instead of the default values generated by Multifeeds.

Note

If you're using other attribution platforms (such as Northbeam, Hyros, Polar Analytics, or Wicked Reports), you may encounter the same behavior, as these platforms also rely on UTM parameters for attribution.

If you need help configuring your UTM parameters, feel free to contact the Multifeeds Support Team. We're always happy to help.
